CIR—CA preposition: at approximately, in approximately, or of approximately—used especially with dates PIC—TURES noun: a design or representation made by various means verb: to describe graphically in words CIRCA-TURES is my creative twist on the old adage, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Through the use of thrift store and flea market finds and witty captions spelled out with letterbeads, my artwork reflects a fascination with the 1950s Pop Art movement and how it challenged fine art at the time by drawing inspiration from popular and commercial culture, such as advertising and mass-produced objects. Pop Art, much like my work, is playful, incorporating bright colors, bold imagery and typography with a twist of irony. Utilizing these elements lets me seek inspiration from the ordinary—turning mundane objects into cool creations.
